As a person trained in biology and architecture/construction, I gravitate to the symmetry, geometry and abstraction of the natural and built world around me. As a Pittsburgh, PA-based artist the juxtaposition of 19th, 20th and 21st century architecture is inspiring.
My experience is as a self-taught painter and photographer. I've been creating abstract fine art photography and painting for the last 15 years. I began taking my work public with gallery exhibits and formal studio work approximately 6 years ago. Over the years I've furthered my formal arts education with workshops, seminars, critiques and private coaching.
I've been fortunate to have my photography sold through Silver Eye Center for Photography [www.silvereye.org] and been published in Along These Rivers: Poetry and Photography from Pittsburgh; a book commemorating the 250th anniversary of Pittsburgh, PA.
I'm currently an artist in the Radiant Hall [www.radianthall.com] studios.
I want the people that view my art to be moved, if even a little, even if it is subtle and creates a feeling that they have not felt in the past. Or can't identify what they're feeling, but know that something has stirred in them.
The components of the built and natural environments compose a "whole" that moves and interacts with the world around them. People are able to recognize when the built and the natural worlds feel "right", feel "comfortable" and conversely when they don't. In all cases I want to provoke feeling, an inner movement in the people that view my art. The feeling isn't meant to be positive or negative. It just is.
